How to find YouTube video ideas when your channel is small
A small channel has no analytics to learn from, so the usual advice ("look at what your audience watches") does not help. What helps is a method that produces specific ideas and a quick way to throw away the weak ones.
This is the method we use in the Cuely Concept Lab. It takes about ten minutes and ends with ideas you can script today.
Describe the video in your own words
Generic idea lists give you generic ideas. You get better ones by starting from something you know: a problem you solved recently, a question people ask you, a mistake you made.
Open Ideas and write that in the "Start from an idea" box in plain language, the way you would explain it to a friend. Cuely shapes concepts around your channel, audience and voice, and you pick the style profile it should use.

Use Save only if you just want to keep a rough idea without generating concepts from it yet.
Save the strong ones, ignore the rest
Each idea comes with a short description of the video and a potential rating, such as High or Very high. Read the rating as a first filter, not as a promise: it tells you which ideas to look at first, not how many views they will get.
Save the ideas you can already picture filming. Leave the rest. Your Saved list becomes the pool for the next few weeks.

Check each idea yourself before you script it
No tool replaces a two-minute check on YouTube itself. For each idea you are serious about, do three things:
- Search the idea in YouTube and read the autocomplete suggestions: they show what people actually type.
- Open the top results. If every one is from a channel a hundred times bigger and from five years ago, find a narrower angle.
- Check what the existing videos skip. That gap is your angle.
Small channels win with narrow, specific videos for a clear viewer: one problem, one result. "How to film a one-scene vlog in ten minutes" beats "Vlogging tips" every time.
Turn the best ideas into something you will finish
When an idea has passed your check, press Write script and move straight into the editor. If three or four of your saved ideas belong together, group them into a series instead: see how to plan a YouTube series.
One idea per week is a good pace to keep. A short list of ideas you will film beats a long list you will not.
If you have a channel already
If you already run a YouTube channel, the creators page lets you enter it and then suggests five ideas based on your recent videos, without repeating what you published. It is a quick way to see the method on your own channel.
Questions
What does the potential rating mean?
It is Cuely's rough signal for how promising an idea looks, shown as High or Very high. It is not a search volume or a view forecast. Use it to decide what to check first.
Do I need audience data to use this?
No. The method starts from your own knowledge and a quick manual check on YouTube, which is why it works for a channel with a few views.
How many ideas should I keep?
A handful you can picture filming over the next few weeks. A long Saved list that you never open does not help.
Can I use it without an account?
The start page gives you five ideas without an account. The Concept Lab, with saved ideas, is part of the free Hobby plan.
